I saw everyone asking shower questions and showers are what's holding me back from auditions this year, I have scars all over my body and I'm so worried people with say things or talk about it.
Most people in drum corps are mature and understanding enough to not talk shit about that kind of thing. If they’re not, then they don’t deserve to be in the activity at all, this sport is for mature young adults. People may ask just out of curiosity, but they shouldn’t talk shit about it and however you respond (like if you didn’t want to talk about it) they’d likely respect that.
Please don’t let that hold you back from auditioning, you’d be missing out on the greatest opportunity of your life.
I feel like because I'm not "skinny" that people will judge me for being fatter. Does that happen?
They might on the inside, but that just gives you a chance to prove them wrong. There was a guy in my section who was considerably overweight at the first camp and I honestly didn’t think he would have it in him to march a whole summer. Know what he did? Got a trainer, worked his ass off, and proved me totally wrong. He lost a good amount of weight between camps and a shit-ton over the summer. Proved anyone who doubted him wrong.
lol i remember trying not to shower the same time everyone else was for like the first 3 camps. then i just gave up and realized it was just a huge party in the guys locker room lol. good times were had in those locker rooms.
Haha I was the exact same way! Early morning showers are admittedly nice (I prefer those) but since you can’t do that on tour, might as well get used to showering with everyone after a long day of work :P and good times indeed lol.
I'm super nervous about the group showers and stuff on tour and camps. Should I be worried or uncomfortable? I don't like my body.
It’s normal to be nervous about that, since it’s a new situation for most people prior to auditioning. No one’s gonna judge you on your body at the audition camps; most of the vets have seen everything there is to see already, and a lot of the rookies tend to keep to themselves or stick with other rookies in the showers. There’s nothing to worry about. I was super nervous about it too, but once you get used to it, you realize how silly it is to worry about something like that haha.
So...I think I'm going to an audition in december, and I'm curious- How awkard is showering with other people?
You get used to it. It was super awkward for me at first since I’d never been around a large cluster of naked people for a semi-long period of time while also naked haha. It depends on the person also. I was one of the shyer rookies I guess, but there are some people that just jump into the whole showering thing with complete enthusiasm lol. Eventually it just becomes a social thing; you make some casual conversation like any other situation, you just happen to be naked now.
So I have a few questions about hornline. I heard trumpets are saprano G bugles, what does spirit have? So are all corps horns in G? And is there treble clef baritone or euphonium? Also how's the conducting going?
Drum corps haven’t used G bugles in quite a while, just about (if not) all of them use B♭ trumpets, euphs, baris, contras (I think), and F mellos. I’m pretty sure the bari/euph parts are in bass clef wherever you go. And the conducting is going great, looking more and more forward to my audition!! :D
Corps story 3: Finals Night (yay!) and Johnny Black-death (not yay)
This took place after we had performed on Finals night in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium. Good feelings were in the air, we made our goal of putting SOA back in DCI Finals, and we had a few hours to ourselves til we had to come back to the stadium for retreat. The weather was absolutely beautiful with a pink-orange sunset in the sky (until later).
Okay first off, I can't get off your blog and it's past midnight, I need to go to sleep. Second, your blog just convinced me to march pacific crest in a year or two. Probably two. Third, you're my new favorite blogger. Okay, thanks.
1. Haha it’s well past midnight for me as well, Black Friday shopping ruined my already messed-up sleep cycle :P
Thank you soooooooo much, that really means a lot :) And good luck with PC, if you have any questions, feel free to ask! :D
